Estimadas familias,
 

¡Bienvenidos al salón 28! Estoy muy emocionada de poder trabajar con ustedes y sus niños este año escolar. Mi deseo es que juntos construyamos un camino de mucho aprendizaje.  Mi meta como maestra es despertar en mis estudiantes el deseo de aprender, explorar y ser creativos. Me gusta animar a los niños a hacer preguntas, a tener confianza en sí mismos y a alcanzar sus metas.

 

Un poco acerca de mí:

Mi nombre es Paola Palacios. Nací y crecí en Cuenca - Ecuador, pero hace seis años me mudé a vivir aquí en Minnesota, junto a mi esposo y mis dos hijas. Me gradué en la Universidad del Pacífico en Ecuador y saqué mi maestría en Educación con la Universidad de Minnesota. Este es mi quinto año trabajando en Emerson, y ¡me encanta! Me gusta mucho la comunidad que tenemos aquí en Emerson. Este será mi tercer año como maestra de segundo grado.  En mi tiempo libre me gusta cocinar, leer y jugar con mis hijas.

 

Aquí están algunas ideas para preparar a su hijo/a para este año escolar:

 

  • Lleve a su hijo/a a la biblioteca e invitarlos a escoger los libros que más les gusten para recuperar el hábito de la lectura, leyendo por 15 minutos diarios para empezar.

 

  • Anime a su hijo/a para que escriba en un diario todas las noches.

 

  • Repase las diferentes maneras en que se puede formar 10 (8 + 2, 5 + 5, 7 + 3), contar de dos en dos (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, …) contar de cinco en cinco (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, …) y contar de 10 en 10 (10, 20, 30, 40, …)

 

  • Recuerde que se recomienda que todos los niños en edad de escuela primaria duerman de 9 a 11 horas todos los días.

 Welcome to Second Grade!

 

Dear families,

Welcome to Room 28! I look forward to working with you and your student this upcoming year. My hope is that together, we can learn a lot and accomplish great things in second grade. My goal as a teacher is to spark the desire to learn, to explore, and to be creative. I encourage kids to ask questions, to be confident, and to achieve their own goals.

 

A little bit about me:

My name is Paola Palacios. I was born and raised in Ecuador, but six years ago I moved to live here in Minnesota with my husband and two daughters. I graduated from the Pacific University in Ecuador and got my master’s degree in Education from

the University of Minnesota. This is my fifth year working at Emerson, and I love it! I really like the community we have here in Emerson. This will be my third year as a second-grade teacher.

In my free time I like to cook, read and play with my daughters.

Here are a few ideas to help your child get ready for this school year:

 

  • Take your child to the library and let them choose their favorite book to get them excited about reading! (15 minutes a day is the suggested starting point).

 

  • Encourage them to keep a journal or diary and write a little bit every night.

 

  • Review the different ways to add up to the number 10 (8 + 2, 5 + 5, 7 + 3). Also, review counting by twos (2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, …), five’s, (5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, …) and lastly ten’s (10, 20, 30, 40, …)

 

  • Remember that elementary school kids should have between 9 and 11 hours of sleep per day.
