Hello! I am DJ Kukielka and this is my third year teaching at Emerson. 2020 marks my 10th year of teaching. This year I will be working with 2nd grade, and also fulfilling the role of Lead Teacher of English Learners. I am excited to meet students and families, and to help students to be successful during distance learning.

I attended Minneapolis Public Schools and graduated from Southwest High School in 1996. After that I studied at the University of Colorado, and received my Master’s in Teaching from Hamline University. I live in Minneapolis with my wife (also a teacher!) and two boys.

I love serving the community as an English teacher and am continuing to work on my Spanish. You will see me playing guitar and teaching the kids songs throughout the year. We have challenges ahead of us, but I know this will be a great school year!
