Dear Families,

Welcome to First Grade with Maestro Jesús!  

My name is Jesús Cervantes, and I'm proud of being a Latino. I'm pleased to be your child's teacher this year! I want to welcome you to Emerson Spanish Immersion Learning Center.        

I have taught students for 13 years in two different countries, Mexico and the U.S. This will be my seventh year in Minneapolis Public Schools. I received my Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Education from the University of Guadalajara, Mexico. I'm currently studying at the University of Minnesota for the certification program in Dual Language & Immersion.  

I enjoy helping children explore their knowledge, learn new things every day to innovate the practice, and develop them into leaders with empathy. Additionally, I become one of their best friends to share conversations, to understand, and even making learning more fun for them.  

It is inspiring and vital to showcase Latin American culture, customs, traditions, and the Academic Language as native to my students. Moreover, I teach them to value diversity in the world with an emphasis on respect and listening to each other.

¡Bienvenidos a la escuela de Emerson y a la clase de primer grado con el Maestro Jesús!

Mi nombre es Jesús Cervantes y soy orgullosamente latino, estoy muy feliz de ser el maestro de su hij@ durante el año escolar! Me gustaría darle la bienvenida a Emerson. Actualmente, tengo 13 años de experiencia como maestro en México & Estados Unidos. En las Escuelas Públicas de Minneapolis éste será mi séptimo año. Obtuve mis estudios de Licenciatura y Maestría en Educación por la Universidad de Guadalajara, México. Actualmente estoy estudiando una certificación del programa en “Dual Language & Immersion” en la Universidad de Minnesota.

Disfruto ayudar a explorar a los niños en sus conocimientos y que aprendan cosas nuevas cada día, formar líderes empáticos. Además de convertirme en un niño más junto con ellos para lograr ser uno de sus mejores amigos, saber comprenderlos, escucharlos, y así crear un ambiente de aprendizaje divertido para todos.

Algo que me apasiona enseñar a los estudiantes, es poder mostrar mi cultura latina, costumbres, tradiciones e idioma. Asimismo, el valorar la diversidad en el mundo con un énfasis de respecto y comprensión; escuchando el uno al otro.
